RU POV: Russian and Ukrainian advances from Day 1241 to 1243 of the War - Suriyakmaps

Russian Forces Advance: 2.72 km²

Advance = 2.72km2

For this post we’re kicking off on the Sumy front, were Russian infantry were able to make a small advance west of Yunakivka. Heavy clashes continue within the town, but the Russians are putting more pressure on the flanks to try prevent Ukraine from reinforcing or counterattacking here.

Context

Over on the northern front, over the span of a few days a small number of Russian troops crossed the international border in the northeastern corner of Kharkiv Oblast, gradually clearing and capturing the village of Dehtyarne. Like most border settlements, this one was either not manned at all or poorly covered by border guards, allowing the Russians to easily take it.

Much like the Russian crossing into Kharkiv south of here, this is almost certainly another push by Russia in a quiet border area to try take a bit of territory and force Ukraine to response, diverting troops that could be fighting in more critical areas. As such, I do not believe Russia will push far here, but may open up other small border crossings in the future. They certainly don’t have the forces available here (as of now) to make a major push from this area.

On the Oskil River front, Russian troops made a minor advance south of their push to the north of Borivska Andriivka, taking over a couple of positions next to the small reservoir.

Ukrainian Forces Advance: 1.34 km²

Advance = 1.34km2

Further south on the same front, over the past week Ukraine once again counterattacked and pushed back into eastern Karpivka, where clashes are taking place.

Russian Forces Advance: 0.53 km²

Middle Left Advance = 0.30km2, Middle Right Advance = 0.18km2, Lower Left Advance = 0.05km2

Down to Chasiv Yar, where Russian assault groups have managed to cleared the last of the Shevchenko district over the past 2 weeks and have now entered the village of Mykolaivka (connected to Chasiv Yar). This leaves just the southernmost suburb of Chasiv Yar left for Russia to capture before they control the entire town, which they have also entered.

As I’ve said many times before, it will still take quite a while for Russia to clear and capture Chasiv Yar due to the drone density and heavy destruction in this area.

Moving onto the Toretsk front, on the southern side, Russian forces are now moving up the southern road of Scherbynivka, following their capture of adjacent Novospaske a few days prior. Same as with that town, the Russians are gradually moving in and clearing the settlement due to Ukraine being forced to withdraw further north.

Nearby, another Russian group captured some defensive positions west of the Zabalka district of Toretsk. This is part of the same effort as the above group in trying to capture Shcherbynivka and secure the southern and western sides of Toretsk.

On the Pokrovsk front, the Russian assault group that enters Novoekonomichne from the south the previous week was unable to establish a foothold, with Ukraine resecuring the southern side of the town.

Adjacent to this, the Russian group that entered Mykolaivka a few days ago did not manage to clear the village, as mentioned in the previous post, and were forced to retreat. They will almost certainly make another attempt soon, as Ukraine is forced to pull back from the other side of the Kazenyi Torets River due to the worsening situation in the Pokrovsk pocket.

Ukrainian Forces Advance: 4.12 km²

Advance = 4.12km2

Heading over to the Velyka Novosilka front, Ukrainian forces launched an attack on Novopil, with an assault group entering the village from the southwestern side and taking up positions in the houses. Clashes are occurring as Russian troops try to drive them out before they can be reinforced.

Russian Forces Advance: 7.17 km²

Upper Middle Advance = 4.92km2, Lower Right Advance = 1.94km2, Bottom Right Advance = 0.31km2

Moving up to the Kupyansk front, on the north side Russian forces managed to recapture a number of their positions in and around Kindrashivka, thwarting Ukraine’s attempt to cut them off. Clashes are ongoing however, so the battle could still go either way.

To the southeast, both Russia and Ukraine made some progress near Stepova Novoselivka, with Russia taking some positions to the northwest of the village, whilst Ukraine counterattacked to the southwest and retook some positions next to the railway. As mentioned last post, they are still trying to infiltrate/push back into Stepova Novoselivka, with no luck in establishing themselves so far.

On the southern side of the Oskil River front, Russian forces made a bit of progress east of Torske, recapturing several positions in the fields that they had lost to a Ukrainian counterattack a month prior. Russia still intends to capture Torske and is doing the groundwork for yet another assault attempt.

Heading back down to Chasiv Yar, in a somewhat surprising move, Russian troops north of the town have moved out from the quarry and pushed west, capturing several treelines and a few trench networks south of the village of Maiske. Whilst this does put Russia in a positions to assault the settlement, the ever present drone swarms over Chasiv Yar will make any push slow and costly. Nonetheless, Russia may be able to make some progress here and start forcing the frontline down the hill away from Chasiv Yar.

Russian Forces Advance: 1.84 km²

Left Advance = 1.57km2, Upper Right Advance = 0.27km2

On the Kostyantynivka front, Russian assault groups in Yablunivka have cleared and captured the last of the northern houses in the centre of the town, leaving just the eastern side to clear. Ukraine’s garrison is struggling here and in adjacent Oleksandro-Kalynove, and will likely be forced to retreat to avoid being cut off. Russian troops are attacking the eastern side now and progress should be confirmed soon.

To the northeast, Russian troops again made a minor advance in the fields between the Dyliivkas, whilst to the north clashes over Bila Hora continue.

Middle Left Advance = 0.51km2, Lower Left Advance = 2.45km2, Bottom Left Advance = 3.56km2

Following on from picture 7, northeast of Pokrovsk, the Russian group that entered Fedorivka have cleared and captured the village, now trying to expand their control of the surrounding area.

To the south, the Russian group that took the houses in northern Novoekonomichne has pushed west, taking over some houses and an old mine complex (north of the slag heap). This widens the forming Russian spearhead towards Rodynske and provides them a greater surface area from which to assault the remainder of Novoekonomichne (if that is their plan).

Moving south again, Russia was confirmed to have recaptured Myrolyubivka following the Ukrainian counterattack a few weeks back, although as I’ve mentioned before I believe this happened some time ago.

ack to the Velyka Novosilka front, this time further north where Russia has restarted operations along the Vovcha River (following a short pause). They were able to recapture the village of Yalta, although as mentioned in the last post the Ukrainians who snuck into the settlement were never intending to hold it for long (just a distraction).

Slightly east of this, Russia recaptured the remainder of Dachne, after driving out the small number of Ukrainians who had broken into the settlement a few weeks ago. They have also begun expanding the foothold nearby and are establishing themselves in the small forest area before they try push further out.

To the southwest, Russian assault groups pushed back into Voskresenka from the outskirts, making it halfway into the settlement, where Ukraine is trying to hit them. To clarify the recent events in this village, since there has been so much confusion:

1. Russian assault groups push into Voskresenka, take over most of it and pre-emptively announce its capture (with flags) before properly clearing and securing the settlement.

2. Ukraine immediately counterattacks and pushes Russia back to the eastern outskirts, posting videos of their own.

3. Russian troops then attack again and make it halfway into the settlement, where clashes are currently occurring.

Russian Forces Advance: 3.83 km²

Middle Left Advance = 0.58km2, Lower Left Advance = 3.25km2

Further south on the same front, the Ukrainian assault group that entered Novopil was unable to secure their positions in the village, being driven out by Russian forces.

The Russians also made a minor advance north of Zelene Pole, moving into a treeline near the small pond.

Ukrainian Forces Advance: 6.86 km²

Left Advance = 6.86km2

Following on from picture 1, after weeks of fighting Ukrainian assault groups were able to push into the central and eastern parts of Kindrativka, with small numbers of infantry spread out across the village. It is still too early to say it has been captured and cleared however, as both Russia and Ukraine continue to slip small groups in and out of the settlement and heavy bombardment is making it difficult for Ukraine to establish a proper frontline. As such their control is fragile and some Russian groups are allegedly still holding up in the basements of some houses.

To the east, Russian assault groups have launched an attack on Varachyne from both Novomykolaivka and Yablunivka, with the latter group taking over part of a treeline east of the village.

Russian Forces Advance: 1.65 km²

Advance = 1.65km2

Following on from picture 12, after a few weeks of clashes Russian assault groups have managed to push deep into Bila Hora, now in control of about 70% of the village. They are currently clearing the remaining section, which should be confirmed soon. Whilst Ukraine can always counterattack here, the Naumykha River (really a stream) makes any sort of vehicle crossing from the north difficult, and the route from Oleksandro-Shultyne is also being pressured.

Russian Forces Advance: 3.01 km²

Top Left Advance = 2.45km2, Top Right Advance = 0.56km2

Also following on from picture 12, over the past 5 days Russian assault groups were able to recapture Popiv Yar and are now pushing onto Poltavka.

To the east, at least one Russian group remains active along the top of the small stream, securing some positions in the treelines and likely setting up for a push to the north.

Russian Forces Advance: 3.23 km²

Upper Middle Advance = 1.99km2, Lower Left Advance = 1.24km2

Following on from picture 14, on the north side, Russian forces that crossed the Vovcha connected up with the troops from Dachne, securing a number of fields and the previously mentioned small forest area. They are currently trying to make their way northwest towards the village of Filiya.

To the southwest, Russian troops made a small advance west of Myrne, as they continue to gradually close in on Oleksandrohrad.
