RU POV: Russian and Ukrainian advances from Day 1338 of the War - Suriyakmaps

Oct 23, 2025 — Oct 23, 2025 War Day 1338–1338

Unfortunately, I have had no spare time over the past week so am quite far behind on events. I am also having to do this post (and probably the next few) on my phone so it will be incredibly scuffed and I apologise if I can’t get to all the comments.

As for why this post only covers one day, for the first time there are too many individual updates on consecutive days (10 for 1338 and 11 for 1339) for me to put in a single post. Day 1339 and 1340 will go in the next post.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pictures 1 to 10 are from Day 1338 (Thursday 23 October).

A reminder that these maps are confirming updates from previous days (i.e. typically 12 to 72 hours delayed from each day).

Russian Forces Advance: 4.39 km²

Top Right Advance = 3.43km2, Lower Left Advance = 0.96km2

Starting off today’s post we’re back on the northern front, where Russia continues to pressure the town. Since the last post they’ve secured the remainder of the southwest side of Vovchansk, where part of their forces are assaulting Synelnykove (red dot below S) whilst the other part tries to clear the industrial area on the south side of the time (below the r).

On the northeast side, another Russian group has been working on the fields and forest areas north of the Vovcha River, after Ukraine was forced to withdraw due to a lack of troops.
Russian Forces Advance: 3.35 km²

Advance = 3.35km2

Context
In the Kharkiv Border area, Russian forces have been continuing their attacks in and around the small pocket, capturing some fields and treelines as well as beginning the assault on the village of Bolohivka. As mentioned in previous posts, whilst the Russian grouping in this border area is rather small Ukraine also lacks manpower and thus is struggling to stop or even stall the Russian advance.
Russian Forces Advance: 0.04 km²

Advance = 0.04km2

Context
Down in Kupyansk, Russian assault groups captured several more industrial buildings in the centre of the town, which according to Suriyak has resulted in an encirclement. However it is questionable if there are many Ukrainian troops left inside this encirclement (they were trying to retreat out last week) and if Russia actually has a solid grip on the encircled area (likely many small gaps in coverage). Regardless, most of western Kupyansk is now under their control and the remaining sections are being cleared now.
Russian Forces Advance: 5.36 km²

Bottom Advance = 5.36km2

Context
Moving onto the Lyman front, Russian assault groups expanded their control of the forest and have occupied part of the defence line around the town, giving them direct access to the settlement. Ukraine for their part seems to be struggling to mount any sort of defence within the forest and has mostly pulled back to the settlements in this area (Lyman, Yampil, Dibrova) where they are digging in.

North of this, Suriyak claims Ukraine still present in some of the treelines and fortifications just outside Zarichne. I don’t have any information on this but if true there are likely a handful of soldiers holding some of the trench networks in that area as long as possible (as we have seen in other areas).
Russian Forces Advance: 1.13 km²

Advance = 1.13km2

Onto the Siversk front, east of the town positional battles continue, with the Russians managing to slightly push forward south of the reservoir.

Southwest, the Russian assault on Zvanivka has begun with clashes occurring in the southern streets.
Russian Forces Advance: 0.86 km²

Advance = 0.86km2

Context
Heading to the Kostyantynivka front, Russian assault groups renewed their attacks into Pleshchiivka, managing to securing the southern half of the village. Fighting is ongoing for the remaining areas, most of which has now moved into the greyzone.
Russian Forces Advance: 0.33 km²

Top Advance = 0.16km2, Middle Advance = 0.08km2, Lower Middle Advance = 0.09km2

Context
Moving onto the Pokrovsk front, on the north side, Russian assault groups slightly improved their positions in Rodynske, taking over several more apartment buildings on the southern side of the town. At this point Ukrainian control is limited to a small section in the central and western parts of the settlement, which is rapidly shrinking as their forces are overwhelmed by the Russians.
Context
In Pokrovsk, Russian assaults groups slightly improved their positions north of the railway line, whilst also beginning to clear the eastern suburbs of any remaining Ukrainian troops.

Russian Forces Advance: 12.44 km²

Top Right Advance = 1.39km2, Lower Left Advance = 2.44km2, Bottom Advance = 8.61km2

Over on the other Pokrovske front, starting on the northeast side, Russian forces managed to hold their positions in Novoselivka, driving out the Ukrainians and recapturing the northern part of the village.

Context
To the southwest, Russian assault groups from Verbove and Pryvillya have started to close in on Vyshneve, capturing several treelines. At least one Russian group from Pryvillya also crossed the Yanchur River and has moved into Yehorivka (below the S), beginning the battle for that village.

Moving southeast, other Russian troops have been working to clear the fields and treelines on their side of the Yanchur River, clearing out the empty areas as Ukraine gradually loses the last of its positions on that side.
Russian Forces Advance: 5.36 km²

Upper Right Advance = 0.32km2, Lower Right Advance = 5.04km2

South of the previous picture on the Hulyaipole front, other Russian groups from Poltavka and Malynivka have begun pushing out into the large area of fields, capturing several treelines and closing in on the villages of Vesele and Zelenyi Hai.
Russian Forces Advance: 9.00 km²

Middle Right Advance = 5.79km2, Bottom Advance = 3.21km2

A little while back Russia launched another mechanised assault on Mala Tokmachka, which was chaotic to say the least (video 1, video 2, video 3, video 4, video 5). Whilst many Russian vehicles were taken out, a number did reach the central part of the town where infantry were dropped off, who spread out into the surrounding buildings. Reports regarding this attack are all over the place, with Russian sources claiming they captured most of the town whilst the Ukrainians claim all the attackers were wiped out. Whilst we can’t currently tell who controls what in Mala Tokmachka, it is at least clear that the Russians have taken over several of the fields and treelines south of the town.
