Situation Snapshots

Imagery, commentary, and territorial changes from the period.

16 entries
Russian Forces Advance: 8.98 km²

Upper Middle Advance = 1.12km2, Lower Middle Advance = 3.99km2, Lower Right Advance = 3.87km2

Beginning on the Sumy border area, over the week Russia has moved further up the treelines near Sopych, Bobylivka and Bila Bereza, as shelling on the nearby villages continues.
Russian Forces Advance: 8.76 km²

Left Advance = 0.29km2, Bottom Left Advance = 0.88km2, Bottom Advance = 4.15km2, Bottom Right Advance = 3.44km2

Onto the main part of the Sumy front, on the south side Russia has further expanded its control of forest north of the city, capturing parts of Nova Sich, Ivolzhanske and Pysarivka at the same time. Related to this there have also been reports of Russian DRGs much further south from what this map shows, all the way down near Sumy city.

A little to the northwest there was also a minor Russian advance in Kindrativka, although the village has essentially been abandoned and any control boils down to whatever side happens to have a soldier/s present in the ruins.
Russian Forces Advance: 13.60 km²

Upper Left Advance = 3.43km2, Lower Left Advance = 5.18km2, Left Bottom Advance = 1.88km2, Right Bottom Advance = 3.11km2

Moving to the other side of the same front, Russia reportedly made further gains in and around Zapsillya, capturing the village and pushing the front towards Velyka Rybytsya. Adjacent to this Ukraine has apparently been trying to push back into Myropilya from the south, whilst Russia attempts to advance down the treelines east of them to cut them off.

As I said last week I haven’t seen much footage of soldiers on the ground from this area, just reports of fighting and imagery of shelling/bombing, so it’s hard for me to judge what is happening here.
Context

No Advance

Heading to the northern front, Russia and Ukraine have continued to attack each others positions in and around the forests near Vovchansk, making various claims of progress or captures but not being able to confirm it. There is certainly a lot of activity occurring south of Zemlyanyni Yar (video 1, video 2, video 3), but it does not look like either side has been able to properly push the frontline in this area yet.
Russian Forces Advance: 3.35 km²

Advance = 3.35km2

Onto the far northern side of the Kupyansk front, Russia straightened up the frontline here by capturing another treeline east of Petro-Ivanivka, whilst infantry continue to try move into Novovasylivka.
Russian Forces Advance: 6.73 km²

Top Top Advance = 1.00km2, Upper Top Advance = 0.60km2, Middle Top Advance = 0.10km2, Bottom Top Advance = 0.31km2, Middle Advance = 0.23km2, Lower Middle Advance = 0.51km2, Lower Right Advance = 3.98km2

Down the central part of the Kupyansk front, on the north side shelling has indicated Ukraine likely still holds positions in the warehouses next to Radkivka (was made greyzone last week), whilst within Kupyansk Russian troops have continued slowly pushing out and recapturing positions on the north side and near the centre of the town.

To the southeast Russia has made a little more progress in clearing out Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi, whilst nearby other Russian assault groups have been advancing deeper into Kivsharivka and on the outskirts of Novoosynove.
Ukrainian Forces Advance: 23.91 km²

Advance = 23.91km2

Down again to the Lyman front, on the north side Ukraine has continued their attacks that have been ongoing since the beginning of June, pushing past Ridkodub, Katerynivka and Lypove towards the village of Nove. I do think Suriyak has jumped the gun here as there is minimal evidence of an advance in this region, just some shelling and reported DRGs, whilst we also more recently had footage of Russian soldiers in somelocalities that had been marked as greyzone or Ukrainian controlled (i.e. questionable that they were captured).

This front has also turned into a mixed layer mess similar to the Pokrovske and Hulyaipole fronts, however it hasn’t been marked as such leading to these swings in territorial control.

Down south within Lyman fighting is ongoing with no confirmable changes in control.
Russian Forces Advance: 29.06 km²

Upper Middle Advance = 6.65km2, Bottom Middle Advance = 22.41km2

Over on the Slovyansk front, Russia has continued working on clearing out the isolated pockets of Ukrainian infantry in various treelines and fortifications south of Kryva Luka and around Nykyforivka. This also means that the ‘correction’/update from a couple of weeks ago has now been partially undone, with Russia back in control of more of this region. There is still the longer salient next to Kalenyky that allegedly still has some Ukrainian troops but with virtually no footage I cannot say what the situation is here.
Russian Forces Advance: 11.62 km²

Upper Left Advance = 0.86km2, Left Advance = 1.11km2, Lower Left Advance = 3.19km2, Middle Advance = 6.46km2

Moving to the Kostyantynivka front, Russia has continued bringing more troops into the city and is now pushing out towards the northwestern suburbs, as well as in the fields west of the locality. At this point Suriyak has also removed the greyzone from the centre of Kostyantynivka on the basis that whilst there are still some Ukrainian troops present they are too isolated and scattered to put up much resistance to Russian control of the city. Whilst I do think he has jumped the gun here once again, I do agree that it is unlikely Ukraine will be able to stabilise and what remains of the garrison will eventually be cleared out in the coming weeks.
Context

No Advance

Staying in Kostyantynivka as we have a two-parter, in the last couple of days fighting has continued in the northwestern suburbs of the city, with Ukraine launching its classic last minute mechanised counterattacks to try turn the situation around (video 1, video 2).

Northeast of the city and in the surrounding area there has been an increase in the amount of shelling/bombing as Russia attempts to take advantage of the chaos to also capture the nearby villages, but no advance has been confirmed yet.
Russian Forces Advance: 20.65 km²

Top Middle Advance = 1.63km2, Top Right Advance = 8.22km2, Upper Middle Advance = 4.60km2, Bottom Left Advance = 6.20km2

Heading to the Pokrovsk front, north of the city Russia has once again starting pushing into the fields around Rodynske, aiming to head to Shevchenko. Suriyak has left a small chunk of Rodynske as greyzone as allegedly a couple of Ukrainian soldiers are still hiding out there, although I have not personally seen evidence of this is quite some time now (there were some a couple of months ago).

Out west Russia has captured the minor village of Myrne and some of the treelines south of it, aiming to push the front out along the road to the northwest. There is minimal cover between Myrne and the next village of Hulive, so Russia will likely need to capture the treelines north and south first for their troops to be able to reach it.

To the southwest Russia reestablished control over the greyzone near Molodetske following earlier Ukrainian attempts to push back into Udachne.
Ukrainian Forces Advance: 27.69 km²

Advance = 27.69km2

Onto the Pokrovske and Novopavlivka fronts, Ukraine has finished recapturing the locality of Ivanivka and has begun to take over the treelines east of the small town.

On the other side of the river the villages of Zelenyi Hai, and Novokhatske have been marked as back under Ukrainian control, although like in some of the previous areas there is almost no evidence to show that these places have changed hands, with the Russians still present throughout the region.
Context

No Advance

Moving over to the main part of the Pokrovske front, in late June Russia has made further infiltrations deep into the rear of Ukrainian lines, claiming capture of Pysantsi, Novoskelyuvate, and Bohodarivka right near to the town of Pokrovske itself. Like with Dobropasove and Lisne a month ago Russia does not actually control any of these villages, however it is undeniable that they have continually been able to sneak troops deep into Ukrainian lines (hence the infiltration zone being expanded).

This front continues to be a mess of mixed control, greyzone and infiltrations, with neither Russia nor Ukraine able to get a handle on it despite 4 months of fighting.
Ukrainian Forces Advance: 39.36 km²

Middle Advance = 37.37km2, Lower Right Advance = 1.99km2

Down to the Hulyaipole front, Ukraine apparently launched several counterattacks over the past few weeks, attempting to retake Vozdvyzhivka and Verkhnya. This is another one where I haven’t seen evidence of the advances shown here and to spoil the next update Suriyak has already walked quite a bit of this back. On top of that this awkwardly clashes with new videos showing Russian troops in Rivne, Kopani and Lisne, all of which lie west of the area Russia allegedly just lost. All I can say is to remember that many fronts are incredibly fluid and control is all over the place due to loads of infiltrations, so mappers are going to struggle.

To the southeast Suriyak has remarked some of the treelines near Zaliznychne as under Russian control (undoing a correction from a couple of weeks back) whilst out west Russian forces pushed into the village of Novoselivka.
Russian Forces Advance: 4.89 km²

Advance = 4.89km2

Over on the Orikhiv front, Russia reportedly re-entered Novodanylivka, although I doubt they will be able to consolidate there and will likely be pushed back out like last time.

To the west other troops made some minor advances in the treelines near Novoandriivka, which for now I’d consider opportunistic as there has been virtually no movement or attacks here all year.
Context

No Advance

Out on the Zaporizhia front, Ukraine has been continuing their attempts to push over the river into Plavni, whilst Russia has been doing the same and sending forces into Prymorske. This has led to a slight expansion of the greyzone but neither side has been able to secure positions from their attacks so far.
